Hey all, I'm Nathan, and after receiving a 2:1 degree in B.A. (Hons) Product Design from the University of Salford in 2012, I began working at both Sparta Engineering and Troy Innovations in early 2013, but I now work at MPT Group. This blog was started to help me begin my design career, it's now being continued to show how my design skills and knowledge are developing with experience. So take a look around, Nathan
So 4 weeks ago I went back to school, or more accurately, I started at a college that specialises in Engineering so that I can get out from behind my desk and get some practical experience. Although I don't intend to use my new skills practically, the knowledge I'm gaining will help me on future designs.
Graham (the grey man) is the icon for a new computer program being launched in a local hospital, and over the weekend I made a full size Graham to stand on a presentation stand with his arm over the monitor demonstrating the new program.

I've been away from the blog for a while because its been all 'Go!' on my end. So here's a quick update of what you've missed in the last few months.
1 - CSWP
I am now the proud owner of a Certified SolidWorks Professional qualification. To achieve this I had to sit a 3 part exam which I was allowed a total of 3.5hrs to complete, and it was suggested that you sit each section on separate occasions (so that you can prepare for each exam individually), but I chose to sit all 3 parts in the same night, and it only took me just over 2hrs to complete all (...cos I'm just that good haha).
2 - I got a new job
You know the routine; you apply to a few places to find out that they've already filled the position, or it was advertised as Product Design, but they actually want a Graphics guy. Anyway long story short, I got a call asking me to go in for an interview at MPT Group, a company that designs and manufactures full machines that produce mattresses. I absolutely nailed the interview, and was asked to return the following week to meet the MD and have a quick practical test to prove that I am as good as my CV says I am. Which of course I am (because lying on CV's is a big no no), and I was hired.
3 - I've flown the nest
Since I got the new job, I have to moved out of my mum and dad's house into an awesome apartment. This was mainly out of necessity because my new works was too far to travel everyday from their house, but also, my new job pays just a wee bit more than the last one so now I can actually afford to move out. Plus you know ... I'm 23, its about time I left really.
I'm pretty sure I've covered everything there, meaning you are now fully up to date on my designer life. But now I've got to update my LinkedIn, About.Me, GrabCAD (and probably a few other accounts) to match.
I was supposed to make a post the other day when I uploaded a few models to GrabCAD - So ...
Check out the models and renderings I've uploaded to GrabCAD. The projects I have uploaded range from some very simple models, to quite complex ones.
The following link will take you to my projects page, showing an overview of all the projects I have uploaded.
Both myself and Daniel have a musical background which will give us the upper hand on this project, and we have worked closely with 21:12 on musical events in the past, but this will be our first design project with them.
I am just signed up for this years Movember - its my first year Mo-ing.
